etsy update.

just a small update on my etsy shop this afternoon. i've been trying to save everything i've been making for holiday time markets.. but it's hard to not have anything in my shop! i gave in just a little bit today. and i probably will again soon.

warsaw.

warsaw, one of my favorite etsy sellers, creates the most beautiful bags.

i am such a sucker for traditional looking canvas and leather bags of various shapes and sizes. i fell in love with her duffels and backpacks at first sight.

the selby.

images of meryl smith's apartment on the selby.

beautiful clothes that i could never afford!

from this fall fashion photoshoot featured in the new york times some months ago.

mondays.

partly as a way to have more time to work on sewing and partly as a way to ease myself into a winter of unemployment, i am now dedicating mondays exclusively to crafts. with the majority of my roommates at work, it's easy to hole myself up in this workroom and just sew sew sew without any distractions.

today i am listening to the carter family anthology, sewing totes from my prized world war two bedroll (the greatest fabric i have ever found), putting together little zipper pouches, and eating the last of some delicious stew from this weekend.

now that it's getting cold outside having the stove going for hours isn't unbearable. this means i am wanting to dye yarn all day every day.

the above yarn was dyed with a good amount of both yellow and red onion skins with an alum mordant. my favorite result so far.

beautiful artwork and images from herbert pfostl's paper graveyard.

how i want to keep warm this winter.

a little bit of what i've been working on lately...
a good sized tote made from recycled military canvas and recycled leather handles.
a small backpack made out of a found military pack.

the pile of completed items i'm putting aside for the bazaar bizarre is slowly growing. still so much work to do.

this december i'll be selling at the boston bazaar bizarre. i'm working hard to have a number of new projects to take with me.. one of which is going to be a nice little way to help bring the outdoors inside for the winter time. this is mostly a result of my own cold weather anxiety and thinking about what i'm going to do once i'm not able to be outside around plants for almost 4 months!

so yes. i am hunting for old containers and filling them with plants.. creating indoor planters for windowsills, bedsides, dining room tables. everything is coming together nicely so far. i have quite the collection of mosses and ferns on my porch. so sad that soon the coldness will signal that it's time to take them all in.

forage

half of a (smallish) giant puffball mushroom.

i found it while tromping through the woods behind my dad's house in new hampshire. i cooked it up nice and put it on top of a pizza with eggplant and caramelized leeks. it was delicious.
