before/after.

stumbled across this beautiful WWII era canvas stretcher earlier this morning. i disassembled it, washed it, and then sewed it into a simple tote bag.

in the heat of summer..

it's been hot these days. real hot. i don't mind so much.. except that i have no motivation to cook. this is always so frustrating because this is the time of year when i should be cooking as much as possible! in january i think back to days like today and kick myself for not taking advantage of all the produce i currently have at my discretion.

so instead of turning on the oven i just turn to fruit. either fruit and yogurt or fruit on cereal. after working outside all day it's all i want to eat! thankfully the farm i work for grows the most amazing watermelon to ever exist. i know that's a bold statement but dudes seriously.. that yellow watermelon is so, so delicious. i've been eating it for every single meal the past few days. and that will probably continue until all the melons have been harvested!

august 20 2009.

for way too many months i've been in desperate need of someplace to store all of my fabric. most of the time it just ends up in various piles on the floor of our workspace.. which doesn't make walking around in here very easy. i've been hoping to come across something at the flea market one of these sunday mornings.. but i've finally decided that i can't wait any longer. i came across these steele canvas baskets recently and my heart did a little jump. they're perfect! not only are they real big and durable.. they'd also be a perfect asetheic addition to this little studio.

apple bags.

thanks to francesca's keen eye i acquired three new beautifully worn-in bags this weekend. one of my favorite parts about finding old canvas is when the seller/owner is able to give me a bit of a back story.. the more i can learn the better! turns out these bags come from a farm in new hampshire where they were used by the family to harvest apples over 100 years ago.

i am starting to develop a plan for my fall bag collection and you can be sure that these beauties will somehow be incorporated. more on future plans soon!

summer days

(all images via the life photo archive)

i've been able to spend the past few weekends out on cape cod with friends and family and it has definitely been just what i needed. but now i'm wishing every weekend i could venture out there to swim and hangout with my little niece and collect rose hips along our little dead end road.

these short trips have definitely got me motivated for more summer adventures while the air is still warm.. this week it's the white mountains and hopefully soon another day trip to vermont with francesca before she moves away from me!

i'm still hard at working doing forestbound related things.. mostly daydreaming about all the bags i'll make once i'm holed up in my studio for the winter. i need to start getting ready for the shop re-opening! i'm still not sure when it'll be.. another few weeks. i'll keep you updated as the time approaches!
